Bike To Work Day Deals and Freebies That You Didn't Know Existed
If you didn't already know, today is National Bike to Work Day!
If you did already know, you probably rocked your bike all the way to work. But did you know that you lean and mean bike commuters probably missed some freebies this morning on your ride in?
Let me help you not miss out the National Bike to Work Day freebies for the rest of the day (and oh yeah, there's even some deals for non-bike commuters too!).
What's National Bike to Work Day all about?
Just like Earth Day, Earth Hour, Arbor Day, etc, it's about giving the average joe a chance to begin a new and fun routine that both saves the Earth and increases your health.
...just be sure you learn how to stay safe and not die while bike commuting before you hit the pavement.
2009 National Bike to Work Day Deals and Freebies
- $5 Off Organic Cotton T-Shirts:

- Party in the ATL:
Bike to Work Day participants can pedal on into The Nook in Atlanta for a Bike to Work Day party from 4-7pm, complete with drink specials and raffles.
- Free Snacks in San Diego:
Bike commuters in San Diego can stop by mapped out pitstops on their way home for free snacks, water, and encouragement. As in many municipalities around the country today, bus rides for bike commuters will also be free...should the need arise.
- Free Coffee and Discounts in Nashville:
Here in Nashville, where I live, the best coffee shop in town, Crema, will be giving free drip coffee to cyclists all day. You can also peddal out for lunch and head to 417 Union Restaurant for a 10% discount a free lemonade when you show them your helmet.
- Find Deals Near You:
The League ofExtraordinary GentlemenAmerican Bicyclists has the be-all, end-all list of Bike to Work Day deals and events going on, broken down by state. Check it out.
I asked my twitter followers (follow me at @JSDavis82) if they knew of any great Bike to Work Day deals and my friend Jonathon Colman (@jcolman) replied with,
"Locally, some of the bike shops and (esp.) Starbucks are giving away all sorts of goodies; lots of drawings/raffles for free gear, too."
I checked with my local Starbucks, only to get a reply of, "It's Bike to Work Day? Cool."...but they knew of no specials happening.
The best tactic might be for you to pop in your favorite stores, coffee shops, and restaurants just to check and see if they're hooking Bike to Work Day folks with any free or discounted swag.
