There’s no doubt that this is a great video to come across on what seems to be the forefront of a nasty Chevy Volt vs Toyota Prius knock-down, drag-out brawl that will last for years to come.
If you haven’t yet heard the news, GM announced on Tuesday that the Volt will [fictitiously] get 230 mpg!
WTF?!
What does that allow them to do? Nothing but make claims like, "The Volt will get 4 times the gas mileage of the Prius"…since the Prius is rated at 51mpg in the city and 48 on the highway.
What GM has ACTUALLY done is to successfully shoot themselves in the corporate foot. Their ridiculously out of scope mileage announcement prompted many bloggers and analysts to call for new rating systems for plug-in electric hybrid vehicles.
Just one example of such a cry was TreeHugger’s post titled, "Stop the Madness! Here’s How the EPA Should Rate Range-Extended Electric Cars".
Hey, you know I’m ALL about taking steps in the right direction here — no matter how big or small they are — but let’s not make outlandish claims for marketing purposes only.
Like the Prius, the Chevy Volt is uber sexy and will be very efficient…but let’s not tell too big of a fish tale GM.
So whether you rock a Prius or a Volt (when it comes out next year), you’ll definitely be "huggin’ mad trees."
