free-earth-day-cfl.jpgWith the launch of it’s new and growing Eco Options line of products, Home Depot is making more strides towards saving and preserving our environment than any other home repair retailer in the world.

On Earth Day, Home Depot will give away 1,000,000 free CFL’s!

Oh, did you just hear that? That was the sound of our excuses being snatched away from us.

If you’re not quite yet aware of the vast benefits of using CFL’s, this post we did a while back will help get your feet wet.

Why has Home Depot chosen to give away these CFL’s?

Because CFL’s are one of the easiest steps we can take to living green, and simple steps are what we’re about here at The Fun Times Guide to Living Green.

What will happen when Home Depot gives away 1,000,000 CFL’s?

Home Depot says this will result in:

  • $12 million dollars savings in annual energy costs
  • Reduction of 196 million pounds of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions — the equivalent of removing over 70,000 vehicles from American highways

Do those numbers sound a little unbelievable?

Though they may, it’s the truth. In fact, if every household in America replaced ONE incandescent bulb with an energy efficient CFL, the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions would be the equivalent of removing 1,000,000 vehicles from our roads.

So let’s all get up early on Sunday, run out to the Home Depot nearest us and get a free CFL. But hurry, it’s only while supplies last!

Remember, most Home Depots open at 8:00am on Sundays!

JoshuaAs an advocate for good health, I usually try to choose the 'greener' option over other more dangerous and/or wasteful options. Generally, if it's bad for your health or the planet, I try to avoid it. In my effort to live green... on a budget, I like to find new (healthier) budget-friendly ways to do things -- from eating and cleaning to recycling and home decorating. My goal is to help you take the chore out of living green by sharing fun new ecofriendly ideas that you can try today... or any day! My all-time favorite way to live green is to repurpose items and give them a new use -- I've written a lot of useful DIY articles.
