Halloween is just around the corner, but it’s not too late to get your Halloween decorations up.
Whether we’re talking about Christmas, Halloween, St. Patrick’s Day, or even the Superbowl, strings of LED lights are the foundation of any great decor!
Check out these 2 awesome ways to make your own custom LED Halloween lights…
DIY Halloween Light Project #1
Be warned, instead of “Project #1” we could just go ahead and call this one “the hard one”.
Truthfully, it’s not that hard — you just need a basic knowledge of soldering. If that scares you, skip on down to the Project #2.
For this project you’ll make your own fully custom LED lights using these materials:
- 5 feet of stranded wire (2 wires twisted together)
- 10 orange 5mm LEDs
- Toggle switch
- 3-volt battery pack
- 2 AA batteries*
- Coin cell for testing
- Sharpie
- Hot glue gun
- Pliers
- multimeter
- Soldering iron
- 10 ping pong balls
- Hand drill
Be careful that the AA batteries do not exceed 2.5 amps — which could cause the LEDs to burn out. Test the batteries with the multimeter beforehand. Test the string after each LED is soldered with a coin cell.
DIY Halloween Light Project #2
This project idea is MUCH easier, but still employs the use of ping pong balls. This is an idea that we’ve talked about before when suggesting it as a way to create some fun and cheap party lights.
To modify this project for Halloween, simply replace the regular old LED multi-color lights with Halloween colored LED lights and boom, you’re done.
What types of eco-friendly or DIY Halloween decorations are you rocking at your house this year?
I think every little step toward living green is an awesome one… but eco-snobbery sucks! My goal is to help newbies learn the most important steps toward living green — individually and collectively. Personally, I strive to have as little impact as possible on Planet Earth while I’m here.
