Have you ever had a connection with or love for someone that was too strong and natural to ignore…despite the fact that it makes no sense whatsoever for the 2 of you to be together?

Well hey, it ain’t just us homosapiens that have that going on.

Check out the video of best friends for life, Suryia the orangutan and Roscoe the dog:

The Story Behind The Story

I first heard about this incredible story on The Today Show this morning.

If you didn’t catch it, you should definitely check out The Today Show’s video of Suryia and Roscoe too!

Before today, I had never heard of T.I.G.E.R.S. (The Instititure of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species)…but I’m glad to know about it now.

As you can see from the end of the Suryia and Roscoe youtube video above,

“…Orangutans are one of the most threatened creatures on the planet. It is expected that orangutans could be gone in the wild in as little as ten years. The primary reason for their decline is the loss of habitat due to the mass production of palm oil in Southeast Asia.”

You’re Involved, You Just Don’t Know It

The question isn’t, “How does that affect us?”. The real question is, “How does it involve us?”.

And the answer is, “way more than you know!”

Palm oil is used for countless applications, from cooking to cosmetics to soaps to biofuels.

Easy Ways You Can Help

Become what I call a “bottle flipper”.

Before you buy a soap, shampoo, or other personal care product at the store, flip the bottle over and actually read what it ingredients it contains. If it contains palm oil, maybe you could consider putting it back on the shelf.

Fear not, there’s still good news!

Back in March, TreeHugger reported that Seventh Generation had begun buying sustainable palm kernel oil credits — or, in layman’s terms, sustainably farmed palm oil… basically.

So before you jump ship on your favorite palm oil containing product, check to see if it’s sustainable palm oil.

What did you discover? Is there a product in your bathroom right now that contains palm oil? Will Suryia the Orangutan and Roscoe the dog’s story move you to check out the source of that palm oil?
