The snow has cleared now.

But if you’re living in a place that’s still getting snow — or still has it on the ground — and you need some bike paths or sidewalks or even parts of the roadway plowed (or if you think you might run into a problem with snow next year and want to be prepared early), I just recently discovered a cool DIY pedal-powered snow plow you might be interested in.

Check out this video to see it in action:

Basically, as you can see, the seat and wheels of an old tractor are used for this snow plow. Though, I imagine there are a number of other places you could get a seat or good wheels.

Of course, some old bike parts are needed, and some strong shovels for plowing. (See video for details.)

Other DIY Snow Plows

While getting the code on YouTube to share this video with you all, I noticed a couple of other cool-looking DIY snow plows.

Okay, this one doesn’t look like it works all that well, but that little 5-year-old is an inventor at heart and I’d love to see what he comes up with later in life.

And this last one is just a pedal-powered tractor, but add some shovels onto the front of that like the guy in the video at the top did and you’ve got yourself one serious snow plow!

If you aren’t so into the DIY ideas above but need some bike paths or sidewalks cleared, another good idea is to host a snow-clearing party. That’s what the folks at “Bike Pittsburgh!” did this year.

Any more cool ideas?
