May is the Month to Beat That Meat...

meatless-in-may.jpg ...right out of your diet.

Geez, what'd you think I was talking about?

Chelsea Green, THE publisher of all books eco-friendly, and Your Daily Thread, LA's guide to having FUN living green, have teamed up to help you go Meatless in May.

Why would you want to cut meat out of your diet, even if just for a month?

Chelsea Green says,

"Cutting meat out of your diet entirely saves 5,000 lbs of carbon emissions per year. By cutting meat out of your diet for just the month of May, you’ll be cutting 420 lbs. of CO2 out of your carbon footprint."

Wondering how eating meat produces SO much CO2 and other greenhouse gases?

Check out the short video from the girls behind Your Daily Thread for an easy explanation.

Happy Arbor Day everyone!

Since this last holiday of Earth Month happens to fall on a Friday this year, I thought we'd celebrate by indulging in some comic relief.

Check out this clip of Jim Carey as "Environmental Guy" in his early days on In Living Color...and then let it be a lesson on why eco-snobbery sucks!

WE ADD UP: Clever Organic T-Shirts With a Purpose

We Add Up - Shower TogetherDon't let anyone EVER tell you that you're not doing "enough".

Every little green step you take counts...big time!

Why?

Because small steps taken by a lot of people REALLY add up.

That's what WE ADD UP is all about...and that's why I like them.

WE ADD UP is mostly known for their incredibly awesome 100% U.S. grown organic cotton t-shirts.

At the time of this writing, they have 30 different "actions" you can display on the shirt of your choice. I like the "Shower Together" one you can see above...for obvious reasons.

Recycling = The Anal Retentive's Dreamland

recycling-fail.jpg Apparently sorting your recycling is quite similar to getting aquainted with a new dog...if you were a dog too.

Ha ha.

I saw this ad at the FailBlog a while back and knew I had to hang on to it for some funny Friday comic relief.

Actually, the info on the ad is quite helpful...i just can't believe no one caught the, uh, angle from which it could (and would) be seen!

When I first saw this it actually reminded me of this great "Little Johnny" joke from my childhood--he he he.

I bet you'll never look at recycling the same way again.

Screw Earth Day!

grist-screw-earth-day.gifGreen giant Grist has an idea for this April 22nd...

SCREW EATH DAY!

Why would such a gigantic source for all things green be so anti-Earth Day?

It might shock you, but they actually have some good reasons that might leave you asking yourself,

"Should I screw Earth Day too?"

I think I would start by first asking, "Why might you consider screwing Earth Day?"

Grist says,

"Screw Earth Day was born from mixed emotions about a day that we purists think doesn’t do enough to get the message across about what individuals can and should be doing to protect the environment."

Good point...or is it?
