6 Fun DIY Projects Using Bamboo

| Comments (2)

bamboo-diy.jpgBamboo has the uncanny ability to make even the most mundane of items take on a luxurious and exotic flare.

That's great, considering it's MUCH more sustainable, eco-friendly, and affordable than wood of all varieties.

Here at The Fun Times Guide to Living Green, we talk a lot about bamboo--from how to make your home panda friendly to incorporating it into your sex life (and everything in between).

But something we've never done is get all DIY with the not-so-tasty panda palate pleaser...until now.

Save LOTS of Energy and the Life of Your Gadgets with a Smart Power Strip

cost-controller-power-strip.jpgIn the fight to save energy we find ourselves up against a plethora of foes.

Luckily, we also have quite a kick ass arsenal too.

I recently told the tale of my experience speaking to some local 3rd grade elementary classes on Earth Day. One of the ways we talked about kids being able to get involved in living green was to take their parents on a ghost hunt to find sources of phantom power draw in their homes.

But what's a person to do when you find a mass of energy sucking vampires clustered together behind that enetertainment center or under the computer desk?

A smart power strip is better than a wooden stake to those vampires!

green-marathon.jpgWe all know that biking is pretty much the most efficient way of getting around known to man, but we can also get our green running shoes on too.

If you've never participated in or been in the crowd of a marathon or half marathon, you're totally missing out!

I'll be heading down to bike the marathon course at the Country Music Marathon here in my hometown of Nashville, TN tomorrow.

So how can you green your running habits and gear? It's pretty easy. What's more is you can even run a green marathon or half marathon too! There's probably one coming up near you that you don't even know about!

Every Day is Earth Day...and it STARTS With Our Children

| Comments (0)

every-day-is-earth-day1.jpgIf we continue to misuse our planet's resources and allow it to continue in its spiraling descent into oblivion, who will be the ones to suffer?

As a guy in my mid 20's I'll feel alot of the pain, but it'll be those much younger than even me who bear the brunt of the damage we're inflicting today...

...and all because we're just lazy.

In celebration of Earth Day today, I was extended the privilege to speak to a couple of 3rd grade classes at a local elementary school.

Clean Green to Stay Healthy and Save Money

green-cleaning-for-dummies.jpgThe weather is warming, flowers are blooming, and birds are chirping away.

Yep, it's time for...

Spring cleaning?!?!

Ugh, it's no fun coming out of hibernation and having to clean up the cave, but since it's a necessary evil, we might as well go about cleaning green, don't you think?

However, since living green has become big business these days, it's becoming increasingly challenging to decide what food, personal care products, and practices are actually green and not just greenwashed.

The same challenge exists in selecting green cleaning products. What's REALLY safe, non-toxic, and the like?

3 Free Ways to Get Better Gas Mileage

better-gas-mileage.jpgWill gas prices ever cease their steep ascent into the stratosphere?

I wish we had the problem of the "high gas prices" in the picture to the left. Sheesh.

I barely even remember $1.93/gallon!!

Luckily, there are an almost infinite number of ways to get more miles out of each gallon of gas we rellunctantly buy.

Even better, is that many of them are absolutely free! What more can you ask than for to SAVE money without spending it?
