The ONLY .99 Cent Over Shoulder Reusable Shopping Bag

trouble-getting-up-stairs.jpgEver had a little trouble getting up those steps with both hands full of grocery bags?

One reader, Indie, left a comment on a previous post about my 4 favorite, stylish, reusable canvas bags, asking for the solution to such a scenario.

Well Indie (and everyone else who shares her dilemma), here's your solution.

Indie said, "I have three kids in a third floor apartment and I'm cursing myself for buying shopping bags that I can't carry on my shoulder."

I'm happy to say that I cannot take credit for the solution to this dilemma.

The credit goes to another commenter on that post. Meredith from my sister site The Fun Times Guide to Brentwood, TN, answered Indie's question with her own comment.

In addition to her comment, Meredith emailed me a pic of herself carrying the "A Better Bag" from Whole Foods over her shoulder. In addition, she says:

"The Whole Foods Better Bag is the only "grocery specific" bag I've found that works over the shoulder. It has a very nice feel that seems more durable than the bags from Kroger and Target."

Thanks Meredith, for the great info! Anyone else know of a good [and cheap] reusable shopping bag?

Besides this one from Whole Foods, the cheapest ones I've found are $6.95.

artteacher: I read on a blog about a place to get cheap bags and envelopes. http://www.papermart.com/ Prices are cheaper when you buy in bulk. No logos to be found here...maybe they have what you're looking for.

the blog I found it on was here: http://www.cookiemag.com/magazine/blogs/nesting/2009/04/diy-detective-i.html

I am looking for cheap cotton bags that my students can paint or print on. I need about 450 and can't spend over a dollar each. The ones listed here sound great but they all have logos on them. A small logo in the corner would be okay, or on one side, possibly, but I need room for the kids to put their artwork. I'm hoping to promote it as shopping bags so need a decent size. Any suggestions? thanks.

I use a Trader Joes bag that is only $1.99 and is beautiful (I think). I blogged about it today here: http://sunnysblog.typepad.com/mornings_light/2008/09/trader-joes-posh-bag.html

I found your blog because someone at TJs had the "a better bag" whole foods bag that I thought was pretty - so I searched for it.

I use my Trader Joes bags at my local grocery store because TJs is 45 minutes from me - both east and west. So when I use my TJs bags at my local store, people who recognize TJs fawn over the bags and ask where the store is. Everyone else just thinks the bags are pretty.

You can also check out my website, www.ecologiebags.com for $2.50 bags that are stylish and fun. I started the business last summer when I couldn't find any pretty reusable bags that were affordable. I'm glad reusable bags are catching on here in the states!

Check these out - reusable bags made from recycled men's shirts! Very cool and very green....www.baggy-shirts.com

@nashveggie & @meredith ha, i imagine those are the same looks i get with my target bag in wal-mart or my publix bags in kroger!

@indie you should feel special. j/k. i'm glad you posed that question. if you cared enough about it to ask, you couldn't have been the only one wanting to know. Hope it helped

Try taking your Whole Foods bags to Aldi and see what kind of looks you get there : )

Wow. I feel special getting my own post. Thanks for the info.

Trader Joe's (not around here of course) has heavy gauge reusable bags for .99 cents. Cloth insulated zippered bags are $2.99. I get extras every time I go. I get funny looks with my TJ bags at Whole Foods and Wild Oats.
