Fresh and Organic Plants & Produce at the President's Home
Did you know every Saturday from 8:00am-2:00pm you can go buy fresh and organic plants and produce at the president's home?
Ok, so it's not the current president's home, but it is a dead one's...doesn't that still count?
Here in the suburb of Nashville, TN where I reside is the home of our nation's 7th president: General Andrew Jackson. His home's name is The Hermitage and, coincidently, that's the name of our suburb, "Hermitage, TN."
I just saw this sign that enlightened me to the existence of this weekly local and organic market...do you know if one exists near you?
If you don't know if a local or farmer's market exists near you, check out the USDA's listing, by state, of farmer's markets.
You can also check the extensive database of local farmer's markets, farms, co-ops and more at LocalHarvest.org.
Be sure to read more about organic and fresh foods.
I'll be updating this post (or maybe even posting a new article) after my first trip to this new found local market after Saturday.
there are a plethora of great restaurants in Nashville, Hermitage/Mt. Juliet...not so much.
That said, Hermitage Steakhouse is really good and "officially" has the best salad bar in Nashville.
The Billy Goat Coffee Cafe in Providence Place (mt. juliet) has some great coffee, WONDERFUL lunch items, and tasty pastries/muffins/etc.
Other that those two places, my wife and I normally hang with our friends in and around downtown Nashville...welcome to the curse of the 'burbs.
I've found some good restaurants (in Nashville) but always on the lookout for more. Still looking for the good ones in Mt. Juliet/Hermitage. If you have any suggestions, I'm open!
suzanne,
wonderful! i'm so glad i could provide some helpful information.
my sis-in-law lives in DC (Alexandria, actually) so I know that you are, no doubt, going through some culture shock.
fear not, however, Nashville has some cool places and things to do. have you found some of those cool local haunts yet?
Very helpful. I'm moving to Mt. Juliet from Washington, DC and having a bit of culture shock, so this is nice to know. Thank you.
ha ha, that is quite ironic, Randy.
thanks so much for the tip about a great farmer's market in the ATL! next time I'm down there I'll be sure to check it out!
Unrelated to the produce portion of your post, I live in a subdivision named "Hermitage Mill" and live on...you guessed it...Andrew Jackson Court.
Small world, Jeffrey.
