Biodegradable Plastics: the Rundown

| Comments (3)

biodegradable-plastic-bottle.jpgWhat if bottles, bags, and other plastic products could be made from biodegradable materials? Oh, wait, they can be!

Have you heard of biodegradable plastic products made from a substance called PLA?

PLA (polylactic acid) is a resin that is mostly made from, you better believe it, corn (although it can be made from other starchy sources such as potatoes).

As Elizabeth Royte from the Smithsonian Magazine puts it, "[This is] an industrial resin poised to become--if you can believe all the hype--the future of plastic in a post-petroleum world".

That said, are PLA products safe? Are they really biodegradable? Do they really save energy and money?

Save the Earth--Use Your Own Mug

| Comments (3)

bring-your-own-mug.jpgLeave it to the rock stars to save the world. My bro Steven Bush of the hot emotional piano rock band SPUR58 has had a vision.

He gets it...he really does. Living green doesn't mean changing your lifestyle. It means figuring out what simple, easy ways we can green the activities and hobbies we already enjoy in our lives.

Won't you help him and the other guys of SPUR58 in the "SAVE THE EARTH--USE YOUR OWN MUG" campaign?

| Comments (9)

electric-ox-mower.jpgCome one, come all! Here at The Fun Times Guide to Living Green we finally have the exclusive details on the ultimate electric riding mower, the Electric Ox, that so many of you have been requesting.

We first heard of this wonderful piece of eco-machinery, and subsequently posted an article profiling all its spectacularness (our most popular entry ever, as of the date of this post), back in March of this year.

These details I bring you now are the result of phone calls and emails that have been exchanged between myself and the Electric Tractor Corporation since that first post in March.

(Ok, so maybe it's been me calling them for three months, but hey, this is proof that persistence does pay off.)

So without further adieu, the price, details, and specifics of the Electric Ox and its options...

Fresh and Organic Plants & Produce at the President's Home

| Comments (6)

fresh-organic-produce-sign.jpegDid you know every Saturday from 8:00am-2:00pm you can go buy fresh and organic plants and produce at the president's home?

Ok, so it's not the current president's home, but it is a dead one's...doesn't that still count?

Here in the suburb of Nashville, TN where I reside is the home of our nation's 7th president: General Andrew Jackson. His home's name is The Hermitage and, coincidently, that's the name of our suburb, "Hermitage, TN."

I just saw this sign that enlightened me to the existence of this weekly local and organic market...do you know if one exists near you?

Refill Your Ink Jet Cartridges to Save Big Money and the Environment

cartridge-world.jpgI love finding and sharing ways to live green that not only save the environment, but save you some cash as well!

The average inkjet printer these days costs around $150. The average household can easily spend an additional $150/year on printer ink!

Does anyone else see something wrong with that?
